Jetzt kann ich ein bisschen Deutch lesen...

Whether or not I can read some German, it would appear that I can't get rotated images to stay rotated. Doh! But as you can see, I am trying a little light-hearted German practise.

I also decided to supplement my English library books with some German ones, too.

Comics are good because the language (tends) to be simpler and the pictures help a lot with the context. I decided a 'novel' was aslo required and when I was a youngster, I read a lot of Enid Blyton. I'm just wondering how 'Lashings of cherry cake and ginger beer will be translated into German....;0)

And of course, I can never have too many cookery books.Hiltl is a famous vegetarian restaurant here in Zürich (the oldest in Europe, apparently), and I have been thinking about buying this book for some time. Let's see how I get on with it in German.

PS - for the English speakers amongst us, I think 'Lust' would be translated as 'enthusiasm' or something like that, rather than the, erm, obvious translation ;0)

  1. Glad you explained that language point ! Heard something on the radio today about some sort of vote going on in Switzerland about whether to continue allowing folk from other EU countries in to work ? Unless I got the wrong end of the stick ! Hope life is treating you well :0)

  2. Swiss vote -they were voting on whether or not to let the latest (east European) members the right to live and work in the country. They voted yes, I wasn't sure how it would go.

  3. Is that the Enid Blyton book known in English as "Five get into a Fix"? The cover looks appropriate. The English version has them setting off to Wales in mid winter to recover from a nasty lurgy. Much snow, toboganing, food, a Welsh version of an urchin and a great lot of baddies down a mine.

LOL - I have my own battered copy right here. Confess it was in the heap of books right beside my bed.

Keep warm, hope you have a happy time reading, huggles from NZ
